Angell Studio offers both lovely dolls and elaborate clothing for them. I had the pleasure of obtaining an outfit a few years ago for a BJD for my daughter, and was very pleased with the quality. This time when I decided I needed a few outfits for my own dolls. I picked out three, each made for a different size BJD. I was curious to see how the clothes would fit on different dolls in a similar size range even though they were very different in their shape. I also wanted to show off some of the materials and workmanship on the outfits. I will be photographing each of the 3 sets on at least two dolls with different builds.
The first outfit shown here is designed for 1/4 dolls. It’s full title is European Clothes-Dawn-Cute Sheep Suit. This frothy confection is reminiscent of Lotita style and is primarily pink and white with some small touches of blue and yellow. Angell Studio costumes are usually covered with a flurry of details and the Cute Sheep Set includes many ruffles, bows, ribbons and attached jewelry. The set comes with a white cotton dress, a pink brocade underskirt, a bodice, stockings, a “sheep” hat and a faux fur muff with a strap.
The set was tried out on two dolls, a slender Teenage Dream Doll Leaves girl named Vivian and a curvy Limhwa Leda.
As you can see, Leda is a bit taller and curvier and with much bigger breasts than Vivian.
Both dolls, despite their differences, were able to fit into the dress set.
Here is Vivian:
And here is Leda:
Many doll clothes successfully fit on different models by including something that will adjust to make it fit. With the Cute Sheep Set, the combination of a loose dress and a laced bodice to cinch the waist makes this outfit easily work on both dolls.
Here is the cotton dress worn alone. It could be used as a loose casual outfit.
Decoration is added primarily at the neck, skirt, and sleeves.
The yoke of the dress is decorated asymmetrically with flowers, beads and bows along with three layers of ruffles.
Here are photos of the dolls with the added petticoat, stockings, hat and muff.
The hat is roomy enough to easily accommodate different wigs. The muff, one of my favorite touches, with a satiny lining, a catch and decorative jewelry including a cute tiny ram with a blue bow decorating the front.
The result is a pastel confection assembled primarily in pink and white.
The Cute Sheep Set was the most likely of the three outfits to fit the different models. The next set will offer more challenges…
Part 2 will be added soon…
