Dolly Day is a special BJD event held bi-annually in Barcelona, Spain. This year, it will fall on September 6th. The Honor Partner this year is Volks.

Q: To start, can you give me a little history behind the event?
A: Barcelona has a rich history in BJD collecting, with meetups dating back to as early as 2005. Inspired by experiences at events such as the Japanese Dollpa, the city hosted its first BJD event, Dolls&Party, in 2014. This event created a space where doll enthusiasts could come together to celebrate their shared passion while fostering connections between collectors and creators. In 2016, the first Dolly Day was introduced, themed Pink Dolly Day. This marked the start of a tradition that continued to promote the Dolls&Party goals while also placing a strong emphasis on supporting pro-artist initiatives and educating the public about the craftsmanship behind doll making. Since then, we’ve celebrated Pink, Green, Blue, Purple, Rainbow, and Golden Dolly Day (with the 2022 edition marking a shift to a bi-annual format). This year, we proudly celebrate Red Dolly Day, and who knows what colours the future may hold!
Q: Tell me more about how Volks become part of this year’s Dolly Days?
A: We actually had contact with them back in 2018 when they generously sponsored us with two amazing full-set dolls for our raffle. Then, this past summer, one of our event organizers visited Japan and had the chance to discuss the possibility of another collaboration with them. We were so excited because we’re all huge Volks fans! After some email exchanges back and forth; in November, they told us they wanted to attend the event in person. It was such a special moment, and keeping it a secret for a whole month until we could announce it was so hard!
Q: Who are some of the participating companies and artists?
A: We have so many amazing creators joining us for this edition of Dolly Day! For dollmakers, we’re thrilled to welcome a fantastic mix of international artists like Latidoll, Dollce, EnfantDoll, Kumukuku, and Another Space, alongside incredible European talents such as Magic Mirror, Quadriga Dolls, Merry Doll Round, and Atelier Momoni +, just to name a few from the first round!
On top of that, we have an incredible lineup of seamstresses, including local favourites like Bunny Heart and MforMonkey and others coming from various parts of Europe like Daria’s The Haunted Dollhouse and Noka. And let’s not forget the talented accessory makers who’ll be showcasing their creations.
Oh, and here’s a little secret just for you—this hasn’t been published yet, but I can give you a sneak peek: a certain enchanting eye maker will also be making an appearance!
Q: What things will attendees find to do at the event?
A: There’s so much happening at the event! Beyond all the buying, admiring, and being amazed by the incredible creations at the exhibitor booths, we’ve planned loads of exciting activities for participants. There’s a lucky card game where everyone walks away with a prize, and a fun search-and-win game that’ll have attendees exploring every corner of the venue.
We’re also planning a Volks-themed exhibition, which is sure to be a highlight. And, of course, we can’t forget our ever-popular raffle at the end of the event—it’s always a crowd favourite! There’s truly something for everyone to enjoy.
Q: Is there anything we haven’t covered that you might like to add?
A: We’d love to take a moment to introduce the Volks survey. Volks themselves have asked us to run a small survey to gather insights from European BJD collectors, and we need your help! It’s super quick: just three multiple-choice questions and an open-ended one where you can share your thoughts as much as you like. They are genuinely interested in our tastes and opinions, so this is a fantastic opportunity to make our voices heard.
