Every year I treat myself to a new Dream High Studio doll for my collection. The first was tiny Mimi in 2010, so yes, I now have 9 dolls! My 2018 pick was Fairy Godmother Phairby Flowers. She is related to the House Elf series dolls. I already have the very first house-elf, Aldou (whose review may be seen HERE), so I could not resist the charms of this unusual fairy!
As usual, my doll was not directly shipped to me by the artist Donny Harijanto, but by his American retailer Fabric Friends and DOLLS. The other authorized distributor of DHS dolls is Dolk (Dolk Station).
Phairby Flower’s box came with a colorful slip-cover.
Phairby, wrapped like a mummy, was snuggled in her cloth case. The doll’s COA was included in an envelope. My Phairby also included a second head cap with a homemade wig attached and clothes set. These items are sold separately.
Here she is without wrappings. Phairby is little, but at 16cm tall she is slightly taller than the house-elves (Aldou is 14.4cm). The house-elves have weathered features, but Phairby has skin that is smoother with pink cheeks. Like the elves, she also has a manicure and pedicure and only 8 fingers.
While the house-elf bodies are sexless (Most have all been made into both boys and girls by collectors), Phairby is definitely shaped like a female. She has breasts and wider hips.
Like Aldou, Phairby has double-jointed elbows and single-jointed knees, yet can still move her legs in many positions due to how she was sculpted and assembled.
Phairby’s hands can easily reach her ears and chin. They cannot reach the top of her head. (Her head is big!) If you click then enlarge this photo, you can see the minute detail of the artist’s face-up with its little moles and spots.
My little fairy godmother’s hairstyle, and preference for flouncy skirts suggest her tastes originate somewhere around the 18th century. My outfit for her is called “Summer Fairy Sabrina”. It includes a tight pink underdress with puffed sleeves and a scooped bodice. Attached to the dress are multiple rows of colorful flounces. She also has a beribboned wrap that goes around her head and some striped tights. Other fairy outfits are also available from DHS along with a pair of fairy wings.
After a brief break in the weather, I took some photos of Phairby posing outside with some of her friends. First is a photo with her and Aldou. The difference in their size and face-ups can be clearly seen.
As an important member of the fairy community, Phairby also is a godmother and protector of the little fairies like tiny 7cm Harpy here, another DHS doll.
And this one’s just for fun.
I do not know if Donny Harijanto plans to introduce more dolls for the limited House Elf / Fairy line. At this time, he is working on completing a tiny mushroom family and the first of what is hoped to be a series of non-limited jointed pets, the first one of which is a ” butterfly dragon”.
I do hope Donny returns to the line in the future and adds a few new characters, especially another fairy, but no matter what he decides to make, I will probably still want it!
