Q: Have you continued to make clothing or are you exclusively focused on dolls?
A: Yes I do make clothing and fur wigs for my kids when I am able to. I also do faceup commissions from time to to as well. My focus for now is sculpting and showing my sculpts in special one of a kind outfits. I do try to offer as much as I can for extra clothing with the time that I have, but there are so many seamstresses out there now who are also sewing for my dolls. I want to encourage them to keep going. I love seeing their visions for my dolls be it with one of their own outfit creations or in their face-ups.
Q: Can you tell me a little about the story behind the creation of Beastie?
A: Beastie was a concept sketch that I made while waiting on a doctors appointment in 2016. That sketch lead to her sculpting process during a particularly tough time in my life. Beastie’s creation process helped keep me grounded and focused during my battle with cancer. She became a symbol of strength and hope, and courage during that time. She is completely different than anything I’ve ever created before. My hopes for Beastie regardless of what my outcome was going to be, was to give others a small beacon of support and bravery in whatever battle they are facing. I won my battle, and believe that having Beastie to work on during that time, helped me through. Sparrow and another little kid, Clover, were also sculpted at the same time. They each hold special meaning to me as I hope they will to others too.
Q: Will this latest release be the final version of Beastie?
A: Beastie will not be released in tan or gray again. I will have a couple special artist dolls available from time to time though. I am happy to report that I have decided to extend the Beastly line though with new sculpts! Beastie has been a true inspiration to me, and I have a lot more in store for the future!
Q: Have you started any other new dolls?
A: On top of the Beastly line, I do have more sculpts coming soon too!
Q: Is there anything I didn’t ask or that you would like to add?
A: I will be at the Austin Ball Jointed Doll Convention this year for certain, and I am also hoping to attend the Pacific North West show as well as MDCC if everything goes as planned.
Tracy Promber offers her doll for pre-order exclusively at Jpop Dolls.
