Enchanting Adela

ImplDoll’s Young line Fantasy doll

Adela’s face captured my attention immediately.  Her small smile, full lips, and heart-shaped face were charming, and I additionally liked her fantasy horn and ears.  I obtained her in white skin resin last fall, but by the time she arrived, the weather was too cold for spraying her head for a face-up outside.  She has been packed away since then, patiently waiting her turn to have color added to her features.

I had not forgotten about Adela during that time.  I obtained first an outfit from Angell Studio that I hoped would fit her, and then a pair of sparkling green glass eyes from Ersa Flora. As the temperatures began to drop where I live, I realized I needed to finally add a face-up before I had to wait until spring.

As Adela was destined to go to my daughter, who has become infatuated with the combination of pink and green, the face-up colors were per-ordained. The result was approved by her new owner, and the dress and eyes were tried out.  Most of the dress set fit perfectly except for the stockings that were made for a far more slender leg.  Adela has rather sturdy legs and fairly large feet for a 1/4th size girl.

Adela is 46cm tall and not only her legs but her whole body is more sturdy than a slim-mini.  The resin used for the doll is opaque and smoothly sanded. Her double-jointed arms are exceptionally good at posing.  Her knees are also double-jointed. They pose reasonably well, but the doll cannot sit well with her lower legs folded under her.  The thigh includes a joint at the top, but her leg cannot be positioned straight up on the joint which some dolls with this feature are able to achieve. Adela’s torso joint can bend forward pretty well but does not really bend backward.  The torso joint moves very well to each side and holds the position.

We tried different wigs on the doll, but with her new face-up, darker wigs did not suit Adela.  The best by far was a long curly blond wig, which was used for all of her photos.  I thought that having hair on her forehead would not work with her horn, but it actually worked very well.  The horn is somewhat like an antler with a horn bud protruding from the main horn.  Impldoll actually used this smaller protrusion to hold a chain in place around the doll’s head for their photos. The horn part is attached with magnets. (One is embedded in her forehead from inside, the other on the bottom of the horn.) Underneath the horn is a teardrop shape carved into the forehead with suggestions of a lip around the outside.  This could be turned into an interesting feature depending on coloring.  It could be used to add a third eye, a gem, a tiny painting, a mirror, or anything the owner might choose.

I had one other reason to finish Adela. Impldoll has just launched a sale and a number of Young line dolls, including Adela, are available for free with a purchase of over $450 from the company.  I thought it would be helpful to show off the doll that I obtained to other collectors so they could see that it is a pretty nice offer!
