~Nelly the Faun~

For 2011, Kaye Wiggs has released a new doll in a new size. KazeKidz Nelly the Faun is available in three resin colors and comes with both a face-up and a set of both human and faun legs. The dolls are available exclusively through Jpopdolls. BJDcollectasy interviewed the Australian doll artist to learn more about Kaye’s new doll and also about her plans for KazeKidz in 2011.

Q: How does Nelly’s body differ from your old 1/3 body? Is Nelly’s head about 1/3 doll size?

A: I think Nelly’s body is slightly shorter then my old SD body but it more “shapely” . She is small on top but has bigger hips and thighs. She is supposed to be about 12 or 13 years old.

Q: What clothing might she fit in? Is she somewhat similar in size to the Dollstown elf body? What eye and wig size will she wear?

A: Yes, she is about the same height as the Dollstown elf body but shaped a bit different.

She probably does not fit clothing the regular SD size doll fits. She fits about the same size as my MSD size dolls in the upper body but is closer to SD size in the lower body.

She takes 14 to 16mm eyes depending on the brand and how much white you like to see in the eyes. I like the Jpopdolls 14mm eyes for her. She can wear stretchy 7-8″ wigs or 8-9″ wigs if they are less stretchy.

Her head is not much bigger than my MSD size heads … in fact Nyssa and Miki heads fit her body too.

Q: What made you want to create hooves for Nelly?

A: I didn’t intend to sculpt hooves for her initially (didn’t think I could do it), then when I showed her preview in The Resin Cafe members commented that she would look great with hooves so I decided to give it a try.

Q: Did you enjoy sculpting hooves?  Do you like making other-than- human items for your dolls?

A: I was awfully nervous about sculpting the hooves, but once I got “into”sculpting them it was fun and not as hard as I thought.

Q: Will you be doing other animal/human/elf dolls in the future?

A: Yes, I like making fantasy creatures because I’m not limited by anything like I am when sculpting human dolls.  I can be as creative as I like. Altho I haven’t done anything uniquely different yet, I may choose to in future, and it’s good to know that I can do whatever I feel like. I will do more fantasy dolls in future.

Q: Do you have any specific plans for the future dolls in the new size line?  Are you working on any now?

A: I’m not working on any new heads for the Nelly body just yet, and I don’t have any specific plans for the future, but I will definitely be sculpting more heads for her sometime in the future.

Q: Would you ever consider releasing Nyssa or Miki in a larger body version? (Kinda the reverse of Iplehouse releasing their Asa in a smaller body version.)

A: I have a pic of Nyssa on Nelly body. We can’t release Nyssa again as she is a closed edition … and Grace and myself have not made any plans for releasing Miki on the larger body, altho I guess it’s not impossible as Miki edition is still open.

Q: Can tell me more about the new dolls you have planned so far for 2011 (the ones featured on a teaser at Jpop)? First,who is Cinny (the ugly green stepsister)?

A: Cinny Ugly Step Sister is a head I sculpted years ago. She was sculpted before Cinnamon and Cinnamon was basically the improved version of the sculpt. I did not like her because I think she is ugly so I scrapped her … hence “ugly step-sister”. I had cast her in green resin ages ago and taken a photo of her when the artist section of DoA was open. Grace remembered her and wants to produce her, so we are having a bit of a “stand-off” about her (LOL)! I still don’t want to produce her! We are also planning on producing Cinnamon in green… see pics.

Q: Will the blue dolls have elf ears or will the ears be cat-like (like Koneko’s)?

A: I think the only blue doll we have planned is a blue Lillie … see pic … yes, she has elf ears.

Q: Will there be more dolls released besides the ones shown in the teaser?

A: Yes, I am planning more new dolls during the year … just working on a new one at the moment. It’s at bit “different”. She is going to be tall and very thin. I will probably do other heads during the year too. I am planning on releasing an elf Layla soon. I am thinking of offering her in lilac resin.
