From the editor:
Do you love looking at beautiful dolls? Me too! Let me introduce you to The STAND, Lookbook magazine. It began as the brainchild of Sharon Wright, award winning actress, editor of Haute Doll, and photographer extraordinaire. The magazine has been around for a couple of years and is known for representing dolls as art through exceptional photography. A Lookbook you say? Well yes, a Lookbook is something like a graphic novel in that it tells a story through visuals instead of words, and might be considered focused on a younger market.
The beauty of the magazine is that it is online and FREE. Yup no subscription, no fees – just great dolls and fabulous photography. If you decide you want a print copy, you can purchase through the website. Several months ago Sharon decided to move on to new projects and adventures and I assumed the job of editing the magazine. I don’t think I was addled at the time, just passionate about dolls and not wanting to let a very good thing go away (that’s how I got into producing doll shows also). Over the last 4 months, I have frankly been amazed at the depth of talent and material available that can be incorporated into the magazine. Honestly the possibilities are endless.
Dolls are considered a niche marketplace, so I guess we could call BJD and Fashion dolls a niche of a niche marketplace … but a very healthy one indeed. Interesting also – the talent sculpting dolls right now is pretty incredible and it is an honor to turn the spotlight on their creativity.
