Q: How did Rosen Lied start? Also how and why did you choose the name Rosen Lied for your company?

A: Rosen Lied was started by a group of people that love BJDs. We wanted to create unique dolls with our own hands and that’s how Rosen Lied started.

We were looking for a name that gives an antique feeling because of our concept. Rosen Lied’s main concept idea is from designs from fashions from the middle ages, before the 18th century. All the staff participated and made suggestions and “Rosen Lied” was finally chosen. It means ‘song of roses’ in German.

Q: Are most or all of the original group of people that started Rosen Lied still with the company?

A: Not all, but most of people are still with the company. Some members of Rosen Lied’s company has been with us for many many years now.

Q: What size of doll was introduced first, which were the first dolls?

A: It was Monday’s (16cm) and Tuesday’s (26cm) that were first released when the company started.

Wednesday’s (43cm) was released on our 4th year.

Some of our first dolls were dolls like Arina, Noah, Lime and etc… They are still being sold on our site, but as the years gradually passed by, there were some changes in the photos.

For example, Arina’s first release photo was:

arina1
And few years after, she was renewed with new set of photos!

arina2

Q: How have your dolls changed over the years?

A: Our dolls have not changed that much over the years. When the Rosen Lied started, we tried may different styles such as antique, punk, vintage, and etc…but as the years went by, our main style was set into antique styles.

We are still trying to make dolls with various images still, but we think we will stick with antique styles mostly like we always used to, but also our quality of dolls has greatly evolved too! This was our very first limited Tuesday’s child doll.

We sometimes go over all the categories and see what we have done over the years, and at that time, we can literally hear our artists screaming. haha!! They become so embarrassed!!!

Q: You have expanded your fashion styles to other periods. What are some of your current favorites?

A: You can see from our answer above, our current favorite style would be antique dresses (We love antique!!),  like from dresses before 18th century.

But we are also eying with huge interest fashion from the early 20th century. They are “Vintage” to be exact. The laces and accessories were gorgeous but the fabric was very simple. So we kind of mix these up and use laces and accessories from the early 20th century, but use more fancy fabrics like silk.

Q: Many talented people have created outfits and face-ups for your dolls. Can you tell me more about the people currently contributing to the doll releases?

A: We currently work with many artists. There are so many talented artists with us. Our Artists each have their own style that they like, and you can view their works through their homepages as well.

All links to our artist’s homepage is at Rosenlied’s main page:
Rollingpumpkin, Kana, GiGiker, LiNi, Uyuchagongbang, Rin.Rena, Derek J,
La-Chatonne, Pianfang, Moi Atelier, Oscar, Sugar baby love, Mikazuki, Madam mikako, Chouette.

Q: What is the process for designing and creating the limited editions and The One dolls?

A: When we decide on the limited editions and The One, we first have a meeting at the end of the month always.

All our staff gather and discuss our next project and update schedules. Then we decide on a general release schedule like quantities, skin color, type and size . If there are special events like Christmas or Halloween, we consider those special dates and decide the image of the dolls based on that day.

When all of our staff decides on the main things, it is totally up to our artists, and it is their own free will to do anything they want based on our main concept. We give our artists a due date and when everything arrives, our photographer sets them up, photographs them and voila! Up to our site!

Q: Will you be adding any additional doll sizes in the future?

A: Yes, we will. Actually in the near future, our new line of doll “Holiday’s” is coming out! We think Holiday’s child will go on actual sale from November. Interesting size, so please look forward to our new line of doll!
