1hatbannerpart2spring

This is part 2 of a 2 part project.  Part 1 may be found HERE.
.

The basic hat pattern available here was created by Nancie of Nankatts.   She designed this beret to be made in felt.  The hats shown here are made from wool felt by BJDcollectasy.

Downloadable patterns are available here:

5.5 inch beret-used for the larger beret

4.5 inch hat plus brim– used for the smaller beret

The pattern can also be reproduced on the material  using  a compass and ruler.

The 1/6 size beret was made from  the 4 1/2 ” ( 11.4 cm) wide circles. The larger-size pattern was used for the 1/4 size beret. The circles for that beret are 5 1/2 inches (14 cm).

1. Cut out the pattern pieces. Based on Nancie’s original, this hat is being made with alternating color pieces for the crown.  4 tan and 4 cream-colored wool felt wedges were cut out.  The 2nd circle is for the lower part of the beret. Cut out one of these.

2. Sew the wedges together to make a circle.

3. The assembled wedges make a circle that will be smaller than the bottom circle.  Pin the bottom circle to the top as shown.

4.  Sew the crown to the base of the beret.  Cut away the excess felt from the base and sew the ends together. The hat can now be turned inside-out.

5. Both the smaller and larger hats are finished off here with vintage crochet trim around the inner circle of the bottom of the beret. They were then decorated with ribbon roses. The inner circle opening of the hat could also be finished off with a blanket stitch or braided trim.

The hats from Part 1 of this project can also be made with the larger (5.5″ or 14 cm) circle pattern to make a roomier hat for an MSD. Our larger beret fit KazeKidz Annabella, and the smaller one is being worn by DollZone Ani. Ani’s bodice was created with matching felt, crochet lace and ribbon flowers along with embroidery floss for blanket stitching the bottom and back edges and snaps to hold it on. Her skirt is tulle sewn onto elastic.
